Beautiful Joe Park

Beautiful Joe Park

Beautiful Joe Park is a peacefull and serene 8 acre parcel of parkland on the banks of the picturesque Big Head River in Meaford, Ontario. The Park is named after the dog "Beautiful Joe", the hero in Margaret Marshall Saunders best selling novel of the same name. Beautiful Joe's Burial Site is on the park grounds with a monument in his honor.

At the entrance to the park, you will find a bronze sculpture of Beautiful Joe created by local Meaford resident, Gunter Neumann. The park is home to a 911 Monument honoring K-9 partner Sirius to Officer David Lim. There is a K-9 Monument as well as a Service Dogs Monument. The park is also home to Paradise Islands, a place where people can have a plaque respectfully placed honoring their beloved pets.

Beautiful Joe Park is a precious natural space in the middle of our town and it requires constant care and maintenance. Without the kind donations of the public, the Society struggles to keep the Park in the beautiful state it deserves. We are a Society of volunteers and are always looking for people to help maintain and preserve our Park. If you are interested in giving even a small amount of your time and love to garden... we need you!

We thank you for your help.

BEAUTIFUL JOE PARK NEEDS TREES!

Trees Wanted! As a result of damage from weather and natural aging, our dear little Park is in need of a few trees to keep it looking every bit as beautiful as the dog it's named after. We are interested in keeping the natural biodiversity alive, and would welcome any donations of trees that would thrive in the Park setting.

If you wish to make a donation of a new tree, or would like to purchase a tree from the Municipality of Meaford for planting, the Beautiful Joe Heritage Society would welcome your support.

The cost of planting, maintenance and supplying a memorial plaque for the tree is $200 with an opportunity to include a picture and story of your beloved companion on our website. Actual size is 4½" x 7½" solid aluminum with engraved insert. What a wonderful way to remember and memorialize a beloved pet companion.
